The California Department of Public Health Radiologic Health Branch (CDPH-RHB) is pleased to announce that as of October 1, 2020, they will provide an expeditious pathway for eligible radiologic technologists to receive the California Radiologic Technologist Fluoroscopy Permit without taking the Fluoroscopy examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT®).

State Licensing Guide

  1. Apply directly to your state licensing agency for examination authorization.
  2. Your state licensing agency will determine your eligibility for the exam for which you have applied.
  3. Your state licensing agency will submit your information to ARRT using a secure database.
  4. You’ll receive a letter from your state licensing agency informing you of your examination eligibility What is Eligibility Period? STATE ELIGIBILITY PERIOD
    Your license/permit eligibility period is determined by your state licensing agency. You may attempt the exam three times within this eligibility period. You must contact your state licensing agency once this eligibility period has ended. Payment for examination must be received at the ARRT no later than 30 days before the end date of your eligibility period. This is to allow time for payment processing and examination scheduling. The exam must be completed before the end of your eligibility period.

    ARRT 90-DAY EXAMINATION WINDOW
    You may schedule your exam appointment for any time during the ARRT-assigned 90-day examination window printed on the State Candidate Status Report. Examination windows begin on the Wednesday after payment is processed at the ARRT and extend for 90 calendar days. Please see Examination Handbook for details.

  5. If you are a first time user, you'll create a personal profile on this site. If you already have a profile, skip to Step 6.
    1. Select "Register" from the login screen.
    2. Enter Zip Code, Date of Birth and last four digits of your Social Security Number. (This information must match the information you provided on your application.)
    3. Verify that your personal and examination information entered from your application is accurate. Notify your state, not ARRT, of any necessary changes.
    4. Enter your email address, password, and other personal information to complete your profile.
  6. When you’re ready to pay for your examination, you’ll:
    1. Respond to a question to indicate if you need testing accommodations (modifications from standard assessment administration).
    2. Attest that you watched ARRT’s Exam Security video.
    3. Confirm that you’ve read the Agreement of State Candidates and the State Licensing Handbook.
    4. Confirm that the examination information submitted by your state licensing agency is correct.
  7. Pay for your examination by credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, and Discover.
  8. Within approximately 7-10 business days, you’ll receive an email from ARRT informing you that your Candidate Status Report is available on your state.arrt.org Profile page. You’ll also receive a printed Candidate Status Report and a state licensing handbook from ARRT via U.S. mail.
  9. Schedule your exam appointment: Call Pearson VUE at 1.800.632.9055, or schedule online.

  10. Complete exam.
  11. Results will be provided to you by your state licensing agency. Please allow four weeks for delivery of results.
